Fair ‘Shrew’: Can’t Blame Innermission, Nell for Trying

Hard-headed women, Elvis reminds us, have been a thorn in the side of men since the world’s been around. Shakespeare might as well have written the song — in fact, with his ‘The Taming of the Shrew,’ he sort of did. Innermission Productions offers a technically deficient but philosophically sound entry to that effect.

Samantha Ginn Shines in NVA’s OK ‘Sylvia’

Samantha Ginn can do no wrong in ‘Sylvia,’ the latest entry from Carlsbad’s New Village Arts, and her castmates come up awfully strong as well. This is a pretty funny show that nevertheless tends to falter in lockstep with playwright A.R. Gurney.

Intrepid’s ‘All My Sons’ works in spite of itself

Except for its unremarkable dialogue and superficial setting, ‘All My Sons’ has a lot going for it–and we’re not being facetious. The script isn’t vintage Arthur Miller, but some ensemble culture and actorial skill make this Intrepid Shakespeare Company entry better than it might have been.
