New York Polyphony Brings the “Missa Charles Darwin” to La Jolla

Friday’s La Jolla Athenaeum concert with the vocal ensemble New York Polyphony featured Gregory Brown’s radically conceived but sonically ingratiating “Missa Charles Darwin.” This impressive male quartet also offered Thomas Tallis’ “Mass for Four Voices” in an evening of tasteful virtuoso singing!

Southern California Musicians Have Big Week in Big Apple Media

This week the Big Apple paid unusual attention to visitors from Southern California, including a New York Times review of the first performance ever by the San Diego Symphony in Carnegie Hall (Tuesday, Oct. 29) and The New Yorker magazine’s feature on the Calder Quartet’s residency at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where they are playing all six of the Béla Bartók string quartets.

Founder of UC San Diego’s Dance Program Establishes $100,000 Endowment

Marshall said she and her husband wanted to create an endowment that would support undergraduate dance students and give them an arena to show the world their talent. “Student productions offer invaluable training for professional careers,” she said. “In San Diego, there are many UC San Diego dance alumni who are leaders, teachers, choreographers, directors, performers and patrons.”
