Story
La Jolla Music Society opened its Celebrity Recital Series with a program by noted violinist Gidon Kremer and upcoming pianist Daniil Trifonov, although the young Russian rising star managed to rule the stage at Sherwood Auditorium . . .
“I wanted to get rid of the old pillow cases in my closet,” she said, “and the new dances are about the people who slept on them. They are autobiographical stories and mixed up by passing of time. I asked Meagan Marshall to write narratives based on those memories. They’re embellished and names are changed. So who knows what really happened?”
If you remember the 1960s (some of us don’t, after all), you’ll remember Abbie Hoffman, a leader in counterculture thought — and with its world-premiere ‘Steal Heaven,’ San Diego Repertory Theatre has not only drawn a good bead on Hoffman but the importance of dissension’s very place in the American experience.
