The panting sound you hear is me rushing to get this review written when you still have two chances, tonight and tomorrow afternoon, to see “Ballet on the Edge,” City Ballet of San Diego’s annual show of contemporary work. Last night’s opening offered not one but two star-is-born moments – a premiere by up-and-coming dance maker Geoff Gonzalez and a show-stealing turn by apprentice company member Laura Kaufman.
The highly respected Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is known for its commitment to artistic excellence and expanding the chamber music repertoire. The first half of that sterling reputation was upheld by five players from Lincoln Center in Friday’s (Nov. 8) program of Schumann, Brahms and Dvorak for the La Jolla Music Society at Sherwood Auditorium.
In the pithy words of Professor Severus Snape, “Potted Potter” was short on magic and needed a more dynamic potion, one that fun-loving muggles could stomach beyond a few minutes.
If you enjoy enjoy campy parody of 1950s culture featuring men in dresses and lots of sexual double-entendre, then get someone to bug you to see this show.
