Fans of ABBA, rejoice: Mamma Mia! is celebrating the second stop of its nationwide tour here in sunny San Diego. The musical, which features music and lyrics by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson and a book by Catherine Johnson, has an enthusiastic following, which was evident in the sequins and cheers accompanying the production’s local performances.
Carlos Simon and the musical colleagues for whom he wrote his ‘Requiem for the Enslaved’ performed the work on Thursday at UC San Diego’s Mandeville Auditorium.
As part of Sunday’s California Festival Family and Community Day at the Rady Shell, the San Diego Master Chorale under Music Director John K. Russell presented a moving program of contemporary choral music.
