Movers & Shakers

Fans of the dance duo Kyle Sorensen and Gina Bolles Sorensen are following their dance adventures in Israel through social media and blogs.  On a Fullbright Fellowship in Israel, Kyle Sorensen embarked on a 9-month residency to study the very rich contemporary dance there.  The couple studies Gaga technique developed by Ohad Naharin of the Batsheva Dance Company and hangs out with dance greats such as Inbal Pinto.  Through blogs and Facebook posts, mortals can enjoy travels, interviews with Israeli choreographers,  rehearsals, performances, and Israeli culture. The Sorensen’s are expected to return to San Diego sometime in July, with more stories to tell and share through dance.  http://somebodiesdancetheater.com/upcoming.html.

Allyson Green, a popular dance educator at both UC San Diego and SDSU, has been appointed dean for Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.

Laura Binder co produces “Ignite A Choreographers Showcase” at the Vine.

Lara Binder, one of Green’s many students, has earned her MFA from Jacksonville University, Florida. Her study was “Dance on Location, choreographic interpretations of the cultural matrix of place.” How fitting for this busy woman. In March she created “Art of Human Being” at Art Produce and finished her thesis. In April she performed in Malashock’s “Lifeblood Harmony” and flew to Florida for graduation. Now Binder is back to co-produce “IGNITE A Choreographer’s Showcase” with Heather Dale Wentworth, at the Vine, May 16-18.

Kris Eitland

Kris Eitland covers dance and theater for Sandiegostory.com and freelances for other publications, including the Union Tribune and Dance Teacher Magazine. She grew up performing many dance styles and continued intensive modern dance and choreography at the Univ. of Minnesota, Duluth, and San Diego State Univ.
