Martin Jones Westlin
Martin Jones Westlin, editor of La Jolla Village News, has been a theater critic and editor/writer for 19 of his 42 years in the public and private print and digital media. He had written for newspapers and magazines in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio and in Seattle and Ventura, Calif. before settling in San Diego in 2004. He was the theater editor and restaurant/wine writer at the weekly San Diego CityBeat from 2006 to 2011 and in 2010 founded the former weekly theater/film website Words Are Not Enough. Westlin majored in theater, with an emphasis in directing, at the universities of Toledo and Michigan. In 2010, he was an associate fellow in theater criticism studies at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California. He is the recipient of several national scholastic speech and debate awards, some of which involve original composition and oratory. Westlin’s lifelong obsession with French theater and film is almost (but not quite) on a par with his fixation on cottage cheese and ketchup.
