San Diego Symphony guest conductor Elena Schwarz opted for the best of both worlds in her Saturday program, devoting her first half to a pair of contemporary works by John Adams and Thomas Adès. She balanced that challenge with Antonin Dvorák’s beloved Ninth Symphony ‘From the New World.’
