Story
Happy early Halloween, everyone! The New Village Arts Theatre has produced a spooky new production of the classic suspense play, Wait Until Dark.
The San Diego Symphony’s Jacobs Masterworks concert of Oct. 11, 2013, offered works by American composers Leonard Bernstein, John Harbison, and George Gershwin, pieces that will complement the Samuel Barber Violin Concerto with soloist Augustin Hadelich on the orchestra’s upcoming trip to China.
Lights brightened in the icy white cloud above the stage and white globs fluttered down like snow. Only then could we realize the entire cloud was made of plastic trash bags. The bags covered the stage and became a strong visual and sonic element. The dancers became orgasmic cheerleaders with trash bag pom-poms, and they did bag tricks…
I left the festival happy, but after thinking about the experience for a couple of days, I wished that I had been happier.
